TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto summoned the president director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri to the Presidential Palace on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 2025. Simon was seen leaving around 4.48 p.m. local time carrying a folder with Pertamina's logo, hurrying away from the palace grounds.
Simon mentioned that he only discussed general matters with Prabowo, including readiness to welcome the 2025 Eid homecoming. "We ensure that the operations run smoothly, and energy supply is also stable," Simon said when asked about his meeting with Prabowo.
However, Simon declined to comment when asked about the alleged violations of crude oil and refinery product import management during 2018 to 2023. He only gave a respectful gesture. "I'm sorry, I have a 5 p.m. mass at the cathedral. It's Ash Wednesday," he said.
Lately, PT Pertamina has been in the spotlight after the Attorney General's Office unveiled alleged violations of crude oil and refinery product corruption.
"We sincerely apologize to all Indonesian citizens for the events that have taken place over the past few days. This is undoubtedly an event that has affected all of us," said Simon at a press conference held today at the Pertamina office, March 3.
Simon stated that his company respects the ongoing legal process and appreciates law enforcement efforts related to the case.
"We strongly support the Attorney General's efforts and are ready to provide additional data and information required for the legal process to proceed according to regulations," he said.
This fraudulent practice emerged following indications of inconsistencies in crude oil and downstream product imports by Pertamina's subsidiaries. The Attorney General's Office is still investigating, having named six Pertamina executives suspects in the alleged corruption of crude oil and refinery product management. The suspects come from the management of Pertamina's subsidiaries and private parties allegedly involved from 2018 to 2023.
