TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto departed for Jombang, East Java, to inaugurate the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Prabowo and his small entourage are scheduled to arrive at Juanda International Airport in East Java this afternoon.
From Juanda, Prabowo will go directly to the Untung Surapati Field and the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang Regency.
“This afternoon, the President departed for East Java to officially attend and open the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to Teddy, Prabowo's presence is a form of respect for the significant role of Nahdlatul Ulama, which for more than a century has been an important force in Indonesia's journey. Nahdlatul Ulama, he said, has a long history in the struggle for independence, maintaining unity, nurturing peaceful religious life, building education and people’s welfare.
"The President has great respect for the contributions of ulamas, kiais, santris, and the entire large family of Nahdlatul Ulama to the nation and state," said Teddy.
The NU Congress is held from August 27-31, 2026, at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Jombang. One of the main agendas of the congress is to elect the General Chair of the NU Central Board.
During the visit to East Java, Prabowo was accompanied by Teddy Indra Wijaya, State Secretariat Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
Prabowo's visit to East Java coincides with a protest at the Parliament (DPR) building in Jakarta. Various community groups from different regions held a rally with the main demand for the immediate enactment of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the death penalty for corruptors.
