TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Sugiono ensures that dozens of foreign ambassadors have been scheduled to submit their credentials to President Prabowo Subianto in the near future to mark the official commencement of their assignments in Indonesia.
"It is planned for this week, it has been scheduled," Sugiono said after bilateral meetings with Madagascar Foreign Minister Alice N'Diaye at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He explained that these ambassadors arrived in Indonesia at different times after the last letter of credence presentation ceremony took place in November.
These ambassadors need to go through a series of gradual processes before finally submitting their credentials to the president, he claimed.
Sugiono claimed that the delay in presenting the letters of credence to the President of Indonesia has no impact on the bilateral cooperation with the respective countries.
Menlu of Indonesia also admitted to having met with each ambassador waiting to submit their credentials. He ensured that the relationships and communications with the ambassadors were running as usual.
"The substance of the bilateral cooperation remains in place for sure," the Indonesian Foreign Minister said.
In the meeting, it was also assured that all diplomatic processes for receiving the ambassadors would be handled through completion, he added.
The issue of submitting credentials has surfaced after former Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Dino Patti Djalal mentioned that some foreign ambassadors were still waiting, with some even for up to eight months, to submit their credentials to Prabowo.
"There are still 17 prospective foreign ambassadors who have arrived in Jakarta, but until now are still waiting for the right time to present their letters of credence to the president," Dino said in his statement on social media X, Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Dino expressed concerns that it would reflect poorly on friendly countries. He also mentioned that in other countries, the letters of credence are usually presented to the head of state more promptly than to the ambassadors.
The last presentation of credentials was held at the Merdeka Palace in November 2025, where President Prabowo received letters of credence from 12 extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors from friendly countries.
