Pramono Anung Unveils Plan to Tackle Jakarta Floods

7 hours ago 10

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he would address the issues of floods in Jakarta based on the types: tidal flooding, local flooding, and overflows from other regions.

"For local floods, we have started dredging in multiple locations, we are also reactivating the absorption wells," said Pramono when met at Jakarta City Hall on Monday, March 3, 2025.

Pramono maintained that floods due to overflows from other regions have lessened compared to the previous years, due to the existence of Cimahi and Sukamahi reservoirs to accommodate the water. However, Pramono said these two reservoirs alone are still not sufficient to handle the Jakarta floods.

The newly inaugurated governor said that he would continue to monitor and work with relevant agencies and stakeholders regarding today's floods in Jakarta. He also urged both officers and residents to remain vigilant about the potential for subsequent floods.

"We remain vigilant to avoid problems during the fasting month. We’re also handling that,” he said.

As of Monday afternoon, the Jakarta Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that 56 neighborhood units (RT) are still inundated with floods, forcing 217 people to evacuate.

The flooded areas are spread across South Jakarta, with 18 RTs and 140 centimeters of water at the highest, and East Jakarta, with 38 neighborhoods and 300 centimeters at the highest. The floods were caused by Ciliwung River overflows.
