TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed Prabowo Subianto's planned visit to Vladivostok in early September. Putin conveyed this plan in a congratulatory message for the 81st Indonesian Independence Day on Monday, August 17, 2026.

The message was broadcast through Russia's official presidential site. "I look forward to our meeting in Vladivostok in early September," said  Putin.

In his message, Putin stated that Indonesia has achieved widespread recognition for its accomplishments in the economic and social sectors and has earned respect on the global stage. He ensured that Russia and Indonesia would continue constructive cooperation to further expand mutually beneficial partnerships—both bilaterally and in other international formats, such as BRICS.

Putin believed that strengthening these relations would not only benefit the people of both countries but also enhance security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. "Relations between Moscow and Jakarta are developing most successfully, as evidenced by our productive contacts with you," he said.

Furthermore, in his message, Putin conveyed his best wishes to President Prabowo and all the Indonesian people. "I wish you robust health and every success in your state endeavours, and to all citizens of Indonesia," Putin said.

Tempo contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, to confirm President Prabowo's planned visit to Russia in September. However, as of the writing of this news, Yvonne has not responded.

President Prabowo's last visit to Russia was on Monday, April 13, 2026. During that time, Prabowo met President Putin at the Kremlin Palace. The two heads of state discussed various strategic issues and opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields. After the meeting, the agenda continued with a closed meeting held during a luncheon in the Blue Hall at the Kremlin Palace.

Prabowo's planned visit to Russia emerges amid the earthquake disaster that struck the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. Almost a week after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook the region, President Prabowo has not yet visited the disaster site.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the President's visit is still in the planning stage. However, Prasetyo ensured that the government has been active in the handling process. "It's being planned, but we also need to convey that sometimes in the early stages, the situation on the ground requires us to focus more on addressing the issues first," Prasetyo said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Prasetyo emphasized that a presidential visit to a disaster area requires special preparation. "The presence of a President certainly requires arrangements and resources unlike a regular visit," he said.

This Gerindra Party politician also ensured that the central government monitors the disaster handling process daily. Ministries and agencies, including the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) and the National Disaster Management Agency, provide regular progress reports.
