TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Airlangga University (Unair) students earn an achievement in an international competition, namely the Silver Medal International Creative & Innovative Idea Competition 2025, which was won online on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
The team consists of Isac Muhammad K Gibran (S1-Aquaculture, Faculty of Health, Medicine, and Natural Sciences/FIKKIA), Laurent Mercy Pankito (S1-Aquaculture, FIKKIA), Iftitah Ahdani Zuhri (S1, Aquaculture FIKKIA), Nashwa Mawla Audyia (S1-Veterinary Medicine, FIKKIA), and Habib Anwash (D4-Informatics Engineering, Faculty of Vocational Studies). They initiated an innovation in an aerial pesticide spreader based on motion control with a cable driven robot concept called 'Adichine'.
Cable and Motion Control Based Robot
Team member, Iftitah, said that global pest attacks have reduced agricultural production by 40 percent. Until now, farmers have sprayed pesticides manually or via drones which are expensive and have limited range.
Adichine is here as an innovation in aerial pesticide spreading tools based on motion control with a cable driven robot concept. The tool offers a more precise, affordable, and environmentally friendly system automation.
"Adichine can help increase agricultural productivity, keep food supplies stable and food security more secure. This technology is more efficient, cheaper, and optimal than conventional or drones," said Iftitah in a written statement, Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Adichine can move in a controlled and precise manner thanks to motion control technology. With a cable driven robot system, the tool can reach a wider agricultural area by reducing excessive spraying.
According to him, Adichine is different from spraying drones which require expensive batteries and routine maintenance. The use of a cable system makes it more energy efficient. "With a motion control system and cable driven robot, Adichine reduces crop losses due to pests such as brown planthoppers," he said.
More precise pesticide control can maintain ecosystem balance. A green economy based on agriculture for future generations will also have a broad impact on sustainable food security.
Innovation and New Opportunities
Iftitah hopes that Adichine will not only be an innovation, but also a real solution for farmers in Indonesia. With this technology, Adichine opens up new business opportunities in the field of agricultural technology, thus creating jobs for technicians, engineers, and distributors of modern agricultural equipment. Farmers are also more productive with the application of modern technology without fear of pest attacks.
"Not only helping large-scale farmers, but also small rural farmers to enjoy the benefits of modern technology. We also hope that Adichine contributes to realizing more sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture," he said.
