TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was taken on a plane on Tuesday, his daughter and local media said, hours after he was arrested at the request of the International Criminal Court (ICC) for extrajudicial killings in his war on drugs.

Veronica Duterte, his youngest daughter, said on Instagram that her father was taken on a plane but that the family had not been informed of his destination. Along with the post, Veronica posted a picture of a small bus at an airport.

"They took our father from us, took him to a plane and won't say where. People, wake up," she posted.

ABS-CBN News posted a video on X of Duterte boarding a jet at a Manila airport and the Philippine Star newspaper said on X that it had received confirmation from a senior police official that the flight was bound for The Hague, where the ICC is located.

Police did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Duterte, a former mayor who led the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, was arrested at Manila airport upon arrival from Hong Kong on Tuesday morning. It is a major step in the ICC's investigation into thousands of killings in the anti-drug crackdown that defined his presidency.
