TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Russia's parliamentary elections due in September must take place amid a "hybrid war" waged by Western countries against Russia, said the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador for Special Assignments, Maxim Raider.

Raider, who also serves as deputy chair of the Foreign Ministry’s Election Commission, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, as ANTARA cited, that the September elections, like the 2024 presidential vote, would again be held amid what he described as ongoing “Russophobic hysteria,” which he characterized as part of the West’s “hybrid war” against Russia.

According to him, modern technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), has significantly expanded the ability to create fake news and manipulate public opinion.

Raider said the situation would make it even more difficult to ensure that voters receive the necessary information.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has set parliamentary elections for the 9th State Duma for September. Voting will take place on September 18–20.

Putin called the upcoming elections one of the most important domestic political agendas for the country.
