Sri Mulyani Shares 8 Economic and Social Strategies for a Prosperous Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati presented eight economic and social strategies to achieve a prosperous Indonesia. The minister delivered these policy strategies at a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

"By implementing these eight policy strategies, undoubtedly, and if God so willing, the foundation of the Indonesian economy will remain strong, self-reliant, and prosperous," said Sri Mulyani in Jakarta.

Citing the official website of the Ministry of Finance, below are the eight policy strategies proposed by Minister Sri Mulyani:

1. Strengthens food resilience by improving productivity and price stability to achieve welfare for farmers and fishers.

2. Realizes energy resilience through increased oil and gas lifting, maintains stable energy prices, accelerates the development of new and renewable energy, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This includes boosting the added value of palm oil by transitioning to B50 from B40.

3. Improves the effectiveness of the free nutritious meal program as part of the efforts to shape a healthy and productive young generation. This program aims not only to improve nutritional intake but also to empower MSMEs and drive regional economic growth.

4. Provides quality and competitive education by strengthening outstanding and public schools, improving educational infrastructure, increasing the participation rate of preschools and higher education, and improving the quality of teachers and vocational education. To support this goal, the government targets the 2026 education budget to be around Rp727 trillion to Rp761 trillion.

5. Improves the quality of health services to support productivity through the expansion of the National Health Insurance (JKN) program, implementation of free health check-ups, acceleration of stunting and infectious disease reduction, improvement of health facilities, and provision of nutrition assistance to toddlers and pregnant women. The government has allocated a healthcare budget of Rp181 trillion to Rp228 trillion for 2026.

6. Strengthens rural development and empowers cooperatives and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), including by accelerating the formation of independent villages and strengthening the role of the Red and White Village Cooperatives as a driver of local economic development.

7. Strengthens the national defense system to maintain state sovereignty as the foundation for achieving economic, social, and political independence for the creation of equal prosperity.

8. Encourages investment growth and global trade competitiveness in a more robust global value chain. Danantara's establishment is part of the effort to strengthen the synergy, competitiveness, and attractiveness of SOEs at domestic and global scales.
