TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After gaining public attention following the withdrawal of the song 'Pay Pay Pay' (Bayar Bayar Bayar) and the forced apology to the Indonesian National Police Chief and the police institution, the electro-punk duo Sukatani finally returned to the stage in the Crowd Noise concert in Slawi, Tegal Regency, on Sunday, February 23, 2025. However, their condition is still in the recovery period. This was revealed by the legal representative of the band from Purbalingga, Central Java, the Semarang Legal Aid Institute (LBH Semarang).
"They (Sukatani) have not responded to anything. They are still in the recovery period," said LBH Semarang Director Ahmad Syamsuddin Arief to Tempo when contacted on Monday, February 24, 2025.
LBH Semarang, which accompanied the band from Purbalingga, also could not provide further statements regarding the possibility of legal action. "We cannot make a swift decision regarding legal action at the moment."
Until now, Arief continued, LBH Semarang is still investigating the chronology of the alleged intimidation experienced by Sukatani's personnel. This includes discussing future steps to be taken together.
In the concert, Sukatani presented eight songs to an enthusiastic audience. Starting from "Sukatani," "Jangan Bicara Solidaritas," to "Gelap Gempita." There was no difference in their appearance this time, the vocalist and guitarist of this music group still wore face masks as their identity. One interesting thing in this concert was the attention directed towards them.
The crowd repeatedly shouted 'Pay Pay Pay,' the song that recently put the band Sukatani in the spotlight. The audience requested the song to be played. However, Electroguy only responded with a thank you to all the audience without giving any response to the request. "Thank you to all of you. Because of you, we can perform here. Thank you," said Electroguy. Until the end of the performance, the song was not sung.
The audience was enthusiastic, with a large number of attendees including various media covering the event, and even police security was tightened. The guitarist of the band Sukatani, Alectroguy, also took off his mask during the performance, which had been their trademark.
The vocalist, Twister Angel, also thanked the fans in attendance. When the music played the song "Gelap Gempita," the vocalist also conveyed a message to the audience.
"We hope you always stay healthy. Always be free human beings! Be careful on your way home. Thank you for your solidarity!" said the vocalist Sukatani quoted from their performance clip uploaded on Instagram @wavecvlt. Tempo has requested permission to quote the video excerpt from the reels.
