TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Barbie Hsu, a renowned Taiwanese actress and singer, had passed away at the age of 48 from influenza complications. She is most known for her role as Dong Shancai in the 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden, which also starred Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu.
According to CNA Lifestyle, Rumours of her death began to circulate online on Sunday, February 2, 2025, and further grew after her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei allegedly changed his profile photo on social media networks to black.
Hsu's death was eventually confirmed on Monday morning, February 3, 2025, through the manager of her younger sister, Taiwanese entertainer Dee Hsu, stating that Barbie Hsu has died of pneumonia at the age of 48 after contracting influenza during the Lunar New Year holiday.
“During the New Year holiday, our whole family came to Japan for a trip, and my dearest and most kindhearted sister Barbie Hsu died of influenza-induced pneumonia and unfortunately left us," said Hsu's sister via her agent, as quoted by Focus Taiwan.
"I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!"
Barbie Hsu, who was married to South Korean singer and DJ Koo Jun-yup, leaves behind two children, a 10-year-old daughter and a 8-year-old son, from her marriage with ex-husband and Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
