TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Entering the 2025 Grammy Awards with six nominations, Taylor Swift left the night empty-handed, marking a surprising turn of events for the pop icon. Though she was nominated in major categories, including Album of the Year for her 2024 album ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ Swift didn’t walk away with any new golden gramophones.
However, Swift’s disappointment was almost impossible to detect. Throughout the evening, she was seen cheering for the winners, regardless of whether she was competing in the same category. For example, when Beyoncé took home Album of the Year for ‘Cowboy Carter,’ Taylor Swift was caught on camera standing and applauding for Queen Bey, showing genuine support for her fellow artist.
At the Crypto.com Arena, Swift’s apparent unbotheredness continued as she celebrated her Eras Tour companion, Sabrina Carpenter, who won Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Short n’ Sweet.’ Swift also graciously acknowledged Kendrick Lamar's impressive wins, as Lamar claimed both Song of the Year and Record of the Year for his track ‘Not Like Us.’
Taylor Swift’s losses in the Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories were particularly noteworthy. Her visual for ‘Fortnight’ was defeated by—once again—Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us,’ while her collaboration with Gracie Abrams, ‘Us,’ failed to win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which went to Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars for their chart-topping duet ‘Die With a Smile.’
Though the night wasn't hers, it wasn’t without historical significance. The Tortured Poets Department had positioned Swift to potentially make history, as a win for Album of the Year would have been her fifth in the category, a feat no artist had ever achieved.
Previously, she’d won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2010 for 'Fearless,' in 2016 for '1989,' in 2021 for 'Folklore,' and again in 2024 for 'Midnights.'
After all, the empty hands of Taylor Swift at the Grammy Awards 2025 don’t speak volumes about her standing in the music industry. Her influence and success are much more than awards, as she remains a force to be reckoned with, as one of the richest singers in the world.
