TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thailand secured their place as Group B champion at the 2026 AFF Cup, advancing to the semifinals after finishing the group stage with a perfect record.
Malaysia followed after securing a ticket upon a narrow victory over the Philippines in their final match.
Thailand faced Myanmar at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Saturday night, Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The hosts only needed a draw to secure their place in the semifinals, but maintained an aggressive display from the start.
Thailand took the lead in the 11th minute through a penalty kick from Kanitsribampen Worachit. Myanmar, needing a win to maintain their chances of qualifying, increased the pressure and took more risks.
But Myanmar awarded Thailand another penalty early in the second half. Jehhanafee Mamah stepped up to take the penalty and successfully converted it to double Thailand's lead to 2-0.
There were no further goals until the end of the match. Thailand secured a 2-0 victory and secured their status as Group B champions.
Thailand closed the group stage with a perfect record. The War Elephants swept all four matches with wins, scoring 10 goals and conceding none.
In another match, Malaysia secured second place in Group B after defeating the Philippines 1-0 at Kuala Lumpur Stadium. Pavithran Gunalan scored the winning goal for the hosts in the 16th minute.
This victory gave Malaysia nine points from four matches. They recorded three wins and one loss to secure their place in the semifinals as runners-up in Group B.
This means that Thailand and Malaysia are the two Group B representatives advancing to the semifinals of the 2026 AFF Cup, alongside Vietnam and Singapore from Group A.
