TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least four people, including teachers and students, were killed and up to 20 others injured in a shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Thailand’s Nonthaburi province, just northwest of Bangkok, on Friday, according to Thai authorities cited by DW.

The shooting took place at the school in Bang Kruai district, with initial reports saying at least one teacher was among those killed.

Thailand’s Ministry of Education later confirmed that four people had died in the attack, while emergency responders said the number of injured victims had risen to around 20.

Police identified the suspected gunman as a teenage student at the school. Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander Dechrapee Kongdee told Reuters that the student died by suicide after the shooting.

Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the suspect, but he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities evacuated students, teachers, and other school workers from the campus as police officers, rescue teams, and emergency doctors were deployed to the scene.

The Poh Teck Tung Foundation, a Bangkok-based rescue organization, said ambulances transported injured students to nearby hospitals for treatment and urged motorists to clear roads to allow emergency vehicles to move freely.

Police continued to secure the school while investigating the circumstances and possible motive behind the attack. Authorities reportedly recovered dozens of rounds of ammunition from a bag belonging to the suspected shooter, according to the Thai Enquirer, citing Anadolu.

The shooting shocked the local community as emergency teams responded to the scene and authorities worked to account for victims and secure the area. Nonthaburi province, located immediately northwest of Bangkok, is part of the wider Bangkok metropolitan region.
