TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Transportation Workers Union (SPAI) plans to rally in front of the Ministry of Manpower on Monday, February 17, 2025, to demand religious holiday allowance (THR) for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers as well as drivers of other online services.
“We demand the right to THR for ojol and also other platform workers such as taxis and couriers,” said SPAI Chair Lily Pujiati in a written statement, Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Thousands of ojol drivers, online taxis, and couriers will take to the streets, along with unions and ojol communities such as the Sukabumi Indonesian Driver Democracy Union (SDPI), the Serang Two-Wheeled Driver Union (Serdadu), the Indonesian Online Driver Union (SePOI), Maxim Jalur DKI, and other organizations. The protest is intended to urge the government to side with workers instead of platform owners.
Additionally, the protest also demanded that the Ministry of Manpower require platforms such as Gojek, Grab, Shopee Food, Lalamove, Maxim, InDrive, Borzo, and the like to provide THR for drivers in accordance with Labor Law No. 13 of 2003.
“We demand the Ministry of Manpower require platforms to provide THR for ojol drivers,” said Lily. Platforms are asked to provide THR no later than 30 days before Eid al-Fitr. The amount of THR is 1 times the provincial minimum wage (UMP) in each region.
In addition, this protest will also demand the Ministry of Manpower to provide regulated protection to platform workers such as ojol, taxi drivers, and couriers. “Immediately issue a Minister of Manpower Regulation that establishes us as workers in an employment relationship instead of partners [to the platforms],” said Lily.
