1. Prabowo Leads Meeting on Wildfire Situation: What He Says
President Prabowo Subianto led a meeting on forest fires in Palembang, South Sumatra, on Monday, August 24, 2026. Prabowo departed for Palembang after inspecting forest and land fires in Riau the same day.
During the meeting, Prabowo offered assistance to agencies involved in combating the wildfires. "If you need additional assistance, report it immediately," Prabowo said in the meeting, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's social media.
During the meeting, Prabowo also received a report from the South Sumatra Regional Police, who claimed to have handled 15 reports of forest fires and named 17 suspects in land burning. Read the president's complete statment here.
2. Prabowo Eyes 'Ubi Bombing' to Fight Wildfires: What Is It?
President Prabowo Subianto has proposed developing a fire suppressant made from tuber-based flour as an alternative tool for tackling forest and land fires in Indonesia.
The proposal emerged during a coordination meeting on forest and land fire management in South Sumatra on Monday, when Prabowo asked the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) whether a substance more effective than water could be used to suppress fires. Read more of the explanation here.
3. Jakarta Police Deny Plan to Arrest Pati Activist
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police denied claims of an attempt to arrest Supriyono, familiarly known as Botok, the coordinator of the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB). Botok, along with several members of the Pati-based community, protested in front of the parliament building in Central Jakarta on Monday, August 24, 2026. They demanded the lawmakers adopt the Asset Seizure Bill.
“Mr. Supriyono alias Botok was neither arrested nor detained by the police,” said Chief of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Monday.
He explained that the Intelligence and Security Unit of the Central Jakarta Police had previously communicated with Botok regarding the planned protest in front of the House of Representatives (DPR). Read the police's full statement here.
