TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it is prepared to enforce a 30-day ceasefire with Russia. According to Anadolu, this declaration came after a meeting between Kyiv's delegation and the United States in Saudi Arabia.
“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation,” the joint statement released after the negotiations in Jeddah stated.
The statement affirmed that both countries had taken significant steps to restore sustainable peace for Ukraine. Washington will convey to Russia the need for reciprocal action from Moscow to achieve a peaceful agreement.
According to the joint statement, the U.S. will immediately lift the temporary suspension of sharing intelligence with Ukraine and resume security assistance to Kyiv.
The Ukrainian delegation also emphasized in the negotiations that Kyiv's partners in Europe should be involved in the peace process.
The meeting between the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations took place a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Gulf country and held talks with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
