TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, strongly condemns the statement made by US Congressman Randy Fine, who called for the nuking of Gaza.
The Palestinian resistance group asserts that Fine's statement is "incitement" to commit genocide against the Palestinian people.
"This extremist call constitutes a full-fledged crime and exposes the fascist racist mentality that governs the thinking of some American politicians," Hamas said in a statement on Friday, as quoted by Anadolu.
Hamas considers the proposal by the Republican lawmaker to be in violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.
Hamas emphasizes that Fine's call incites the public to use weapons of mass destruction against more than 2 million Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas also stated that the "monstrous" call will not weaken the faith in the justice of the Palestinian struggle, but "once again expose the true face of the occupation and its backers."
In response to the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers in Washington, DC, Republican Randy Fine proposed on Fox News that Gaza should be "nuked" like Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II.
Fine, a Republican from Florida, was asked if the fatal shooting should affect ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, and he implied that Gaza should be completely annihilated in response to the shooting, similar to the Japanese cities during World War II.
He said that in World War II, “We (the US) did not negotiate a surrender with the Nazis. We did not negotiate a surrender with the Japanese. We nuked the Japanese twice in order to get unconditional surrender."
"That needs to be the same here (Gaza)," he told Fox News.
The US dropped atomic bombs on both cities in Japan during World War II, killing about 215,000 people in the first few months that followed.
Israel's genocide in Gaza has killed at least 53,822 Palestinian residents and injured 122,382 others since it began on October 7, 2023, according to the latest figures released by the Gaza Ministry of Health.
