TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of air guns and firearms were found in a locked room inside a private school in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.
About 995 weapon items were found inside the room, which was used by the former head of the school's foundation. "Whom we have sacked," said the school representative Untung on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The room was only accessible to the former school chief and his trusted associates. "He built a bunker at the school, with a back door for disembarkation and embarkation of goods," Untung told reporters.
New School Foundation Head Discovered the Firearms
The firearm storage was discovered when the new head of the school foundation wanted to use one of the rooms at the school. When the room was opened, the school discovered hundreds of weapons stashed in several boxes.
Following the discovery, the school inspected several other rooms and found more weapons in the room belonging to the former head of the foundation. "We also found bullets and a bullet-making machine," Untung said.
Untung suspects that several other rooms in the school are also being used as weapons storage. "It turns out they took all the keys (to the rooms) with them," said Untung.
The South Jakarta Police received a report of the discovery of weapons at the school on July 15, 2026.
Currently, hundreds of air guns are stored at the Weapons and Explosives Supervision Unit (Wassendak) office of the Jakarta Metro Police. Meanwhile, a firearm is held at the South Jakarta Metro Police.
Drugs and Porn VCDs
Besides weapons, police unveiled other items that were stored in the rooms.
The Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said police also found what was suspected to be narcotics. "This must be tested in a laboratory," Budi said on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Police will also investigate the discovery of video compact discs (VCDs) suspected of containing pornographic recordings. "We will see what the regulations (on ownership) are," Budi said when met by reporters at Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters.
Police Investigation
Jakarta police are pursuing the former head of the school foundation, IW. According to Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, the police are still in the process of summoning IW.
According to Budi, IW, the former administrator of the school foundation, may have seen the weapons on school grounds. "Or placed them in the school storage room," Budi said.
Budi said investigators would question IW about the origins of the weapons' ownership and permit documents. "Why they weren't stored in the proper place," Budi said.
The former school foundation administrator was previously known to be affiliated with PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, which notably sells weapons for shooting sports.
The President Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, Alhadid Endar Putra, claimed that all the weapons had permits. "There's no regulation prohibiting us from storing them in certain places. The important thing is that there's CCTV, it's locked, and it's not explosives," said Alhadid.
