TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The short messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced a series of updates for its calling service, including the Call Web feature that allows users to make and receive voice and video calls directly through the browser without needing to download an application.
"These features are rolling out gradually and will be available to everyone soon. We hope they make your WhatsApp calling even simpler to use," the company said in a statement on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Through the Call Web feature, users can access personal and group calls from WhatsApp Web. The company mentioned that this feature is intended for users who share a computer, use work laptops that do not allow application installation, or prefer to use a browser.
WhatsApp stated that the calling experience in the browser still offers features available on other devices, such as screen sharing, reactions during calls, and a Call tab that displays call history and favorite contacts. All web calls continue to be protected by unlimited end-to-end encryption, with no additional time limits or costs.
Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced a Call Transfer feature that enables users to transfer ongoing group calls from one device to another without ending the call. This feature is designed to facilitate users who switch from mobile devices or tablets to computers, or vice versa.
The next update is the Waiting Room feature, which gives the group call organizer more control. When creating a call link with the option "Require approval to join," participants will be placed in the waiting room until the organizer allows them to join the call.
WhatsApp also enhances video quality with its QuickHD feature, which provides high-resolution video from the start of the call.
On the other hand, the company launched the Noise Suppression feature to reduce background noise during calls. To ensure clear sound, even in noisy environments, users can activate or deactivate this feature through settings during the call.
