According to The Daily Mirror, England could play as few as two matches away from Wembley Stadium if they qualify for Euro 2028 and progress all the way to the final. Meanwhile, Morocco World News highlighted the contrast between UEFA's qualification rules and FIFA's policy for the expanded 2030 World Cup.
Why England Does Not Qualify Automatically
UEFA requires all four Euro 2028 co-hosts—England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland—to participate in the standard qualification process.
The tournament will feature 24 teams. Qualification will primarily be decided through the regular qualifying campaign, with group winners and the best runners-up advancing to the finals.
UEFA has reserved only two backup places for host nations that fail to qualify directly. Those places will be awarded to the highest-ranked host nations that miss out through the normal qualification route.
As a result, England is not guaranteed a place simply by hosting matches. However, the Three Lions remain in a favorable position because of their strong UEFA ranking.
Morocco World News revealed that England would miss Euro 2028 only if they fail to qualify through the regular process and are also ranked below at least two of the other host nations eligible for the reserved places.
Contrast With FIFA's 2030 World Cup Policy
The UEFA approach differs significantly from FIFA's decision for the 2030 World Cup.
FIFA has confirmed automatic qualification for all six host nations: Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. Although Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay will each stage only one opening match as part of the tournament's centenary celebrations, all six countries will receive automatic places in the competition.
The different qualification policies have drawn attention because England, which will host the majority of Euro 2028 matches, must still earn qualification, while several 2030 World Cup co-hosts qualify automatically despite staging only a single game.
Where England Could Play
If England qualifies, the team is expected to begin its campaign at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium before playing its remaining group-stage matches at Wembley Stadium.
Should England top its group, the team would likely play its Round of 16 match at St James' Park in Newcastle before returning to Wembley for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and potentially the final.
In that scenario, England would play only two matches away from Wembley throughout the tournament.

Unlike the expanded FIFA World Cup, Euro 2028 will feature 24 teams divided into six groups, with a total of 51 matches played over one month.
