TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ahead of the Eid homecoming travel season, Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works has mapped 52 flood-risked and 53 landslide-prone locations across West Java. The ministry's head of the Highways DG, Rina Kumala Sari, said the flagged locations start in Bekasi and Bogor.
"The flood-prone areas are in Bekasi, then in Parung, Bandung, Ciawi and also in Cibadak," she said when met at the Vehicle Testing Unit Office in Cirebon City, Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Several flood-prone areas are monitored from Parung to Bandung, then from Pelabuhan Ratu to Surade. Furthermore, in the Jatiasih Subdistrict, Bekasi City, Sindangbarang, Cidaun, Purwakarta, Sumedang, Cileunyi, Tasikmalaya, around Palimanan, Cipatujah, Kalapagenep, and Pangandaran.
Meanwhile, areas vulnerable to landslides include Cibinong, Cianjur, Cikembang, Tegalbuleud, Sindangbarang, Purwakarta to Sinumbra, around Palimanan, Bojongloa, Cipasung, Kalapagenep, and Pameungpeuk.
Rina said the Jakarta-West Java Highways DG has been anticipating floods bycleaning out the river channels together with the watershed office (BBWS).
"Bekasi requires more intensive and extensive handling since it's a flood-prone region," she added.
One of the challenges for Eid homecoming travel this year is the likelihood of extreme rainfall that may trigger floods and landslides. This condition also worsens the risk of road damage due to erosion, in addition to the sheer volume of vehicles passing through the route.
Rina mentioned that her task unit has prepared 117 Disaster Relief Units (DRU) and 31 units of UPR equipment. "Spread across the disaster-prone areas," she said.
She assured that the roads affected by disasters or potholes will be immediately addressed to ensure a smooth Eid homecoming exodus.
