TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-23 national team has been eliminated from the 2025 SEA Games. Young Garuda has been confirmed to have failed to advance to the semifinals after winning 3-1 against Myanmar in the second match of Group C at the 700th Anniversary Stadium, Chiang Mai, Thailand, on Friday, December 12, 2025.

In this match, Indonesia fell behind in the 29th minute when Min Maw Oo breached Daffa Fasya's goal. Young Garuda rallied to equalize through Toni Firmansyah's goal in the 45th minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw in the first half.

In the second half, Ivar Jenner and his teammates tried to increase the pressure. Several chances were created, but they still couldn't add to the goal tally.

Substitute player Jens Raven scored two goals in the 88th and 90+5th minutes. His two goals led Indonesia to a 3-1 victory.

The victory positioned Indonesia as the runner-up in Group C with three points, behind the Philippines, which topped the group with six points. However, the victory did not secure Garuda Muda a spot in the semifinals.

Indonesia was the second-best runner-up, finishing with a total of three goals scored and two conceded. They were below Malaysia, who also gathered three points but had a better goal difference, scoring four goals and conceding three.

The failure to reach the semifinals confirms Indonesia's inability to defend the title they won in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. At that time, Indra Sjafri successfully guided Young Garuda to a gold medal victory, ending their 32-year title drought at the event.

Match Summary

First Half

In this match, coach Indra Sjafri changed the lineup from the first group match against the Philippines. Five new players entered, including goalkeeper Daffa Fasya, who replaced Cahya Supriadi.

Four other players, Kakang Rudianto, Robi Darwis, Toni Firmansyah, and Frengky Missa, started from the first minute, replacing Muhammad Ferarri, Rivaldo Pakpahan, Raka Cahyana, and Dion Markx.

Young Garuda took the initiative to attack as soon as the match began. However, Ivar Jenner and his teammates struggled to break through Myanmar's high-pressure defense.

Indonesia created several dangerous chances, but still couldn't score. Daffa's goal was breached in the 29th minute. Daffa couldn't stop Min Maw Oo's curved shot into the corner of the net.

After conceding, Indra's troops pressed on. Multiple times, players from the Indonesian U-23 national team came close to scoring amidst the melee in front of Myanmar's goal. However, with their strong defense, those dangerous chances were not converted into goals.

The equalizer was scored in the 45th minute. Toni Firmansyah took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Hein Htet Soe, who failed to catch Dony Tri Pamungkas's corner kick. Toni immediately kicked the ball into the net. The score changed to 1-1.

Second Half

Striker Hokky Caraka came on at the beginning of the second half, replacing Rafael Struick. Meanwhile, Myanmar continued to play with the same squad.

When the second half reached the eighth minute, a throw-in by Robi Darwis created a commotion in front of Myanmar's goal. Kadek Arel got hold of the loose ball in that situation. However, his shot was off target, soaring over the crossbar.

Two minutes later, Myanmar launched a counterattack. Zaw Win Thein broke into the penalty area. However, his shot still soared over the crossbar.

In the 63rd minute, another commotion occurred in front of Myanmar's goal, starting from a throw-in by Robi Darwis. Ivar Jenner forced a shot, but it went wide, disappointing Dony Tri Pamungkas, who was standing open but did not receive the pass.

In the 68th minute, coach Indra Sjafri made another substitution. Striker Jens Raven was brought on to replace Toni Firmansyah.

Myanmar made a double substitution in the 77th minute. Thurein Tun and Than Toe Aung were substituted for Swan Htet and Saw Myo Zaw.

The Indonesian U-23 national team tried to increase the pressure on Myanmar's goal to add another goal. However, despite creating multiple chances, they still couldn't convert them into goals.

Kadek Arel's header from a throw-in by Robi Darwis ended up soaring over the crossbar. Next, this Bali United player had another chance. However, his header was parried by goalkeeper Hein Htet Soe.

In the 81st minute, Indra Sjafri brought on Rahmat Arjuna and Muhammad Ferarri to replace Frengky Missa and Kakang Rudianto.

Indonesia's second goal came in the 88th minute through Jens Raven, who capitalized on an assist from Ferarri. This goal changed the score to 2-1.

Indonesia's goal was almost breached in stoppage time in the second half. At that time, Daffa's save was imperfect. The ball slipped from his grasp before he could secure it again. At that time, a player from Myanmar was standing in front of the goal.

Jens Raven scored his second goal in the 90+5th minute through a header from Dony Tri Pamungkas's corner kick. This goal changed the score to 3-1.

However, the 3-1 victory was not enough to advance Indonesia to the semifinals, as they were still behind Malaysia in the best runner-up standings.
