TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Brazil secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Haiti in the 2026 World Cup Group C match on Saturday, Indonesian time, at Lincoln Financial Field Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Matheus Cunha scored twice, bringing the Selecao to the top of the standings.
As reported by ANTARA, Cunha started Brazil's pressure with goals in the 23rd and 36th minutes, then Vinicus Junior scored a goal at the end of first-half stoppage time. The result secured Brazil three crucial points after they failed to win their opening match. They now top Group C with four points.
Brazil actually has the same number of points as Morocco, but the head-to-head record between the two teams is equal, so Selecao is entitled to be at the top with an overall goal difference of three to one.
Meanwhile, Haiti is languishing at the bottom of the table with no points, below Scotland (3), and its chances of qualifying for the knockout stages are almost gone.
From the start of the match, Brazil appeared more dominant, controlling the ball with Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta. However, Haiti, coached by Sébastien Migne, tried to defend tightly with a five-man defense to reduce pressure from the opposing team.
Brazil took the lead in the 23rd minute through Cunha, who capitalized on a loose ball in the penalty box after quick work with Vinicius Junior. This goal marked the beginning of Brazil's dominance, which continued to put pressure on Haiti's back line.
The lead was doubled in the 36th minute when Cunha got his name back on the scoresheet with a composed finish after once again capitalizing on Vinicius Junior's movement in the opposition half. With Johny Placide in goal, Haiti struggled to develop their game and were forced to defend more against the Brazilian offense.
Entering the first half of extra time, Brazil added a third goal through Vinicius Junior after receiving a through ball from Lucas Paqueta, thus closing the first half with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, Haiti tried to increase the intensity of its attacks by bringing in new players. However, these efforts were often thwarted by the solid Brazilian defense, led by goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
To maintain the rhythm of the game until the end of the match, Brazil also rotated players by bringing on Endrick and Gabriel Martinelli.
Haiti threatened several times, but the score remained 3-0 until the final whistle blew.
