TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AC Milan became the champion of the 2024-2025 Italian Super Cup or Supercoppa Italiana. The Rossoneri came back from two goals down to win the fierce duel in the final match which took place at the Al-Awwal Park Stadium, Riyadh, Tuesday morning, January 7, 2025, with a score of 3-2.
The first half of the match was tight. The first goal in this match only happened just before the half-time break. Unmarked striker Lautaro was able to finish Mehdi Taremi's pass well. His hard kick to the bottom right corner could not be blocked by goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
Early in the second half, Inter increased their lead through Teremi. He moved into the penalty box to receive a cross from Stefam de Vrij, and kicked it into the bottom right corner.
Trailing by two goals, coach Sergio Conceacao changed his game strategy. He brought in Rafael Leao to replace Alejandro Jimenez. Leao's entry proved to be the solution for his team's revival.
Leao, who immediately attacked Inter's defense, was fouled by an Inter player, so he was awarded a free kick not far from the box. He took advantage of the opportunity. Theo Hernandez, who was the kicker, was able to put the ball into Inter's goal. In the 52nd minute or two minutes after Leao entered, the score changed to 2-1.
In the 63rd minute, Inter's goal was almost conceded. However, Milan's attempt to score a goal was thwarted by Alessandro Bastoni. Tijjani Reijnders' kick that was heading towards the goal hit his face, which required him to receive medical treatment for a few moments before returning to play.
Coach Simone Inzaghi then reacted by making substitutions. He brought in Piotr Zielinski and Carlos Augusto to replace Henrikh Mkhiyaryan and Federico Dimarco.
Not long after, Milan made another substitution. Tammy Abraham came on to replace Yunus Musah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a substitute for Tijjani Reijnders 13 minutes before the match ended in normal time.
The equalizer occurred in the 80th minute. Christian Pulisic, who was one-on-one with goalkeeper Yann Sommer, kicked the ball received from Theo Hernandez's pass into the bottom right corner.
Milan's third goal, which was also the winning goal, occurred in the 90+3' minute. Rafael Leao created an assist for Tammy Abraham's goal. He passed the ball to Abraham who then finished it well.
Abraham's goal was greeted with a lively celebration by coach Conceao and his colleagues. This result is a good record for the Portuguese coach who was just brought in on December 30, replacing his fellow countryman Paulo Fonseca who was fired.
With this victory, AC Milan won its eighth Italian Super Cup title. They last won this event in 2016. This result also thwarted Simone Inzaghi's team's efforts to win this trophy for the fourth time in a row or the ninth time.
