TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -Two former Jakarta governors Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, or Ahok, and Anies Baswedan met at an event held by the Jakarta provincial government called 'Bentang Harapan JakASA' at the City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon, December 31, 2024.
Anies and Ahok sat side by side in front of the Pendopo Building at the City Hall. Both whispered occasionally while smiling.
After the event, Ahok revealed his hope for Jakarta in 2025. "Jakarta that has officials who will meet the demands of social justice for its citizens, and Jakarta that meets the requirements of world standards to become a world megapolitan city," he wrote on the board in the courtyard of the Pendopo Building.
He also thanked Jakarta's acting governor, Teguh Setyabudi, who gathered all of Jakarta's former governors. "We must be brave to welcome the 500th anniversary of Jakarta. We highly appreciate what Mr. Acting Governor has done, hopefully, the good intention can be realized," he said.
Ahok answered briefly when asked about his discussion with Anies Baswedan at the event. "You have to ask Pak Anies. This is a different matter. Just wait until next month."
Anies Baswedan also thanked and congratulated the Jakarta provincial government on Jakarta's 500th anniversary event. "Jakarta is about the people. Jakarta is ours."
Anies also gave a similar answer when asked about his discussion with Ahok. He again urged people to wait until next month. "Just wait. Let's just wait," he said.
The Bentang Harapan JakASA event on Tuesday, December 31 was attended by Jakarta's acting governor Teguh Setyabudi. Several other former governors attended the event, including Sutiyoso (1997-2007), Fauzi Bowo (2007-2012), Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok (2014-2017), and Anies Baswedan (2017-2022). The former deputy governor of Jakarta in 2020-2022, Ahmad Riza Patria, also attended the event.
The Jakarta Pilkada contest participants were also present, namely deputy governor candidate Suswono, deputy governor candidate Kun Wardhana, Jakarta Governor-elect Pramono Anung, and Deputy Governor-elect Rano Karno.
The event aimed to write down hopes and wishes for Jakarta in 2025.
