Former England and Middlesbrough striker Alan Peacock has sadly passed away at the age of 87.
His death was confirmed on Monday by Middlesbrough via a statement on their official X account.
It read: 'we are saddened to learn of the passing of club legend Alan Peacock at the age of 87.
'The former England international, who scored 141 goals in 238 games for his hometown club, passed away peacefully at the weekend with his family by his side.
'The thoughts of everyone at Middlesbrough Football Club are with Alan’s family and friends at this sad time.'
Peacock. who forced to retire from football at the age of 30 due to injury, was diagnosed with dementia in 2018.
The former England international spent a decade with his hometown club Boro between 1954 and 1964, netting 141 goals in 238 games.
He then had spells with Leeds and Plymouth Argyle before being forced to hang up his boots in 1968.
Peacock's performances for Middlesbrough saw him earn a place in England 1962 World Cup squad.
He made his international debut in the Group Four victory over Argentina and went on to make five more appearances for his country in total, scoring three goals.
Middlesbrough added on their website: 'Alan, 87, was known to many at the Riverside and was a familiar face around the club, always with a smile and a cheeky quip.
'He was involved with matchday hospitality at the club where he was a popular host. He played an active role within the club’s Foundation and he was heavily involved in programmes creating dementia awareness.'
