TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Argentina offers to export beef and cattle to Indonesia. This offer was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of Argentina, Agustin Tejeda Rodriguez, to the Deputy Minister of Indonesian Agriculture, Sudaryonp, in a bilateral meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture office, Jakarta, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
"From our perspective, Indonesia does not have a strategic issue; it is more technical. This afternoon's visit is his second," Sudaryono said after the meeting. Rodriguez had previously visited Indonesia in November 2024.
Sudaryono explained that there are three aspects that the government considers in responding to Argentina's proposal. This Gerindra Party politician said the government needs to pay attention to the price due to the distance between the two countries.
The government also considers the reciprocal aspect. If Argentina exports beef, in return, Indonesia also wants to export commodities to the Latin American country. The government is considering exporting horticultural products, fruits, chickens, and processed products.
The government also pays attention to halal certification, given that the majority of Indonesia's population is Muslim. This certification is needed in addition to a health certification. "Halal is a very important issue in food consumption," Sudaryono said.
Sudaryono stated that the bilateral agreement on beef imports is carried out between governments (G2G). However, companies (B2B) can implement imports, both state-owned enterprises and private enterprises.
Rodriguez added that he will continue working to make Argentine beef and other products available in the Indonesian market. Argentina, he said, is opening international business. Therefore, he wants to strengthen relations with Argentina. "Hopefully, we can taste Argentine beef this year," he said.
Rodriguez has not yet revealed the volume of beef that his country can export to Indonesia. The outcome of these discussions with the government will be crucial.
