TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli right-wing extremist politician Itamar Ben-Gvir on Monday called for an all-out military offensive on Gaza, including air and ground attacks.

As reported by Anadolu on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, this came after Hamas postponed the planned release of hostages on Saturday due to Israel's violation of the January 19 ceasefire agreement.

"Hamas' announcement must have one concrete response: a massive attack on Gaza, from the air and the ground, in addition to the complete cessation of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, including electricity, fuel and water," the former national security minister told X.

In January, Ben-Gvir resigned from the government over his opposition to the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Since then, he has advocated what he calls the "voluntary migration" of Palestinians from Gaza, despite the fact that it amounts to ethnic cleansing that constitutes a war crime.

He called for bombing aid packages that have been brought into Gaza. "We must return to war and destruction," he said.

Hamas accused Israel of not allowing Palestinian refugees to return to their homes in northern Gaza and of facilitating humanitarian aid to the enclave.

Following the Palestinian group’s announcement, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the army to be on “the highest level of alert” for any possible scenario in Gaza.

Katz said Hamas’ announcement was a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States, Qatar and Egypt.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said his country remained committed to the ceasefire agreement “as written” and “takes any violations seriously.”

The three-phase ceasefire has halted Israel’s 15-month genocidal war, which has killed more than 48,200 Palestinians in Gaza and devastated it.

Under the first part of the deal, which runs until early March, 33 Israeli hostages will be released in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners. A sixth Israel-Hamas exchange is scheduled for this week.
