TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan prohibits study tours and graduation ceremonies for all schools in the province.

"I ask all heads of agencies and school principals in the Province of Bengkulu to no longer hold study tours or graduations that burden the parents of the students," said Helmi Hasan in a message received by Antara on Wednesday, February 26.

This decision was made after many parents complained about the additional costs they were facing for these activities.

Helmi Hasan emphasized that heads of the Education Department and school principals, from early childhood education to senior high school, are prohibited from organizing study tours or graduations that can burden the students' parents.

This step is also in response to numerous reports from parents who felt weighed down by the costs of study tours and graduations that are considered non-essential. Moreover, in recent years, more and more schools at various levels of education have been organizing educational tours and graduations.

Instead of providing an enjoyable experience for students, these activities burden the parents financially. Many parents complain about the expenses that must be incurred, such as transportation, accommodation, meals, and other additional needs.

These costs create a problem for families with limited financial resources, even though these activities should not be mandatory.

The Bengkulu Provincial Government believes education should remain a priority without adding a financial burden for unnecessary activities. Therefore, this prohibition policy ensured that education remained inclusive and did not burden the parents.

Helmi Hasan hopes that everyone, including school principals, teachers, and school committees, will understand and support this new rule. He emphasizes that the education system should focus more on improving the quality of learning instead of organizing events that create differences in wealth among students.

"Education in Bengkulu must continue in line with its main objective, which is to create quality generations. Education funds should be allocated more to improve the quality of learning, teacher welfare, and the development of school facilities, rather than for ceremonial activities that burden the community," he said.
