TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of areas across Jakarta and its surroundings will continue to be showered with rain today, January 23, 2026. The rainfall began in the early hours of the morning, and in some locations, it is expected to persist throughout the morning hours.
In general, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that moderate-intensity rain will be experienced across the entire Jakarta land area all day. Only the Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu) are expected to see light rain of less than 20 mm per day.
The forecast is similar for the surrounding satellite cities. According to BMKG, only Bekasi Regency is expected to experience light rain today. The rest, including Bogor Regency and City, Bekasi City, Depok City, and Tangerang Regency and City, are all potentially affected by moderate-intensity rain.
Early weather warnings from BMKG maintain that Jakarta and its surrounding areas remain on "Alert" status today. This indicates a potential for very heavy to extreme rain. This status remains unchanged from the previous day, while the outlook for tomorrow will shift to a "Watch" for heavy to very heavy rain.
According to climatological records at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Erma Yulihastin stated that rainfall in Jakarta throughout yesterday reached 126 mm, which is classified as very heavy. She noted that the rain system was persistent and showed indications of a storm. "Heavy rain poured over Jakarta yesterday, reaching 126 mm, accompanied by three rainfall peaks and strong winds of 56 km/h throughout the day: morning, afternoon, and evening," she said.
Rainfall in the early hours of this morning was observed to reach 50 mm, as measured by the weather station at Wisma Asia. Meanwhile, the early weather warnings from BMKG, valid until 7 AM this morning, state that moderate to heavy rain is present in parts of North, Central, South, and East Jakarta, as well as Tangerang Regency, with the potential to extend across almost the entire Jabodetabek or Greater Jakarta area.
