TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for most areas in Sumatra to be on alert for the potential of heavy rain and very heavy rain in the next three days, from December 12 to 14, 2025. Not only rain, but also strong winds.
BMKG issued the early warning in the Weekly Weather Outlook for the Period of December 12-18, 2025. During that time, the BMKG stated that tropical cyclones were affecting the weather in southern Indonesia.
For example, over the past three days, Tropical Cyclone 91S in the Indian Ocean, west of Lampung, has indirectly caused moderate to very heavy rainfall along the west coast of Sumatra. The highest rainfall was recorded at the Minangkabau Meteorology Station in West Sumatra, reaching 128.3 mm last Wednesday.
In addition, a tropical disturbance in the waters of Sawu, East Nusa Tenggara, which has now become Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S, has also triggered heavy to very heavy rain, reaching 113.6 mm last Tuesday. According to BMKG, daily rainfall of 100-150 mm is classified as very heavy rain.
According to BMKG, in the coming week, Tropical Cyclone Seed 91S could indirectly cause moderate to heavy rainfall in West Sumatra, Bengkulu, and Lampung. Strong winds are possible along the west coast of West Sumatra and Bengkulu.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S is also predicted to form areas of wind speed reduction, or convergence, in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara. Convergence areas can increase the likelihood of rain cloud formation.
