BNPB to Build Houses for Residents Relocated Due to Floods, Landslides in Sukabumi

2 months ago 56

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the National Disaster Management Agency or BNPB, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, stated that the agency will build houses for residents who were relocated following recent floods and landslides in Sukabumi, West Java. He stated that the step is part of post-disaster recovery.

"The local government must prepare the land," he said in a written statement on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

He asked the local government to record the number of families whose houses were damaged due to the floods and landslides. In addition, he stated that they will provide stimulus funds to residents whose houses were slightly and moderately damaged.

"The stimulus funds will be provided in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

In addition to renovating residents' houses, BNPB will also build emergency bridges connecting Cidadap Village and Loji Village. After Eid al-Fitr, he said, the Ministry of Public Works will permanently construct the Cidadap Bridge. The vital bridge suffered severe damage due to the flood.

Based on BNPB data as of March 7, 2025, a total of 155 houses were affected by the flood. One of them suffered severe damage.

Meanwhile, due to landslides in Sukabumi, a total of 6 houses suffered severe damage, 8 were moderately damaged, 9 were slightly damaged, and 18 others were affected by the landslide.

In addition to residences, damage also occurred to bridges. The BNPB recorded a total of 3 severely damaged bridges and 3 others moderately damaged.

The flood in Sukabumi has caused 125 families (229 people) to evacuate, while the landslide has affected 32 families (99 people). The total number of casualties is three dead and five missing.
