BPS: Dates Imports Reach 16.47 Thousand Tons Ahead of Eid Al-Fitr

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the dates imports in February 2025 reached 16.47 thousand tons. Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti reported that the dates imports increased for five months approaching Eid al-Fitr.

"In February 2025, dates imports reached 16.47 thousand tons or the equivalent of US$18.09 million," said Amalia when presenting the release at the BPS headquarters in Central Jakarta on Monday, March 17, 2025.

Egypt imported the most dates, 9.24 thousand tons, accounting for 56.12 percent of Indonesia's total dates imports. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia was the second largest import origin, with 2.69 thousand tons, accounting for 16.32 percent of the total.

While the third largest dates importer was the United Arab Emirates, totaling 1.19 thousand tons, with a share of 7.22 percent. "Cumulatively, from January to February 2025, dates imports reached 32.89 thousand tons or US$38.76 million," said Amalia.

Amalia explained that the dates imports from January to February 2025 came from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, and Iran. "The dates import trend increased five months ahead of Ramadan and Eid periods, peaking in January and February," she said.

The number of dates imports approaching this year's Eid al-Fitr period has increased compared to last year. In 2024, the highest dates import occurred in February at 11.24 thousand tons.
