TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly preparing to leave Real Madrid and has reached an agreement to take over as head coach of the Brazil national team starting in June.
This development was shared by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who stated that the Italian manager will lead the Seleção in the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
"BREAKING: Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil have reached an agreement in principle for the Italian to become Seleçao head coach for the World Cup 2026. Deal valid from June, NOT after Clubs World Cup," Romano wrote on his X account on Tuesday.
Romano also reported that Ancelotti will not be coaching Real Madrid as they compete in the inaugural Club World Cup in the United States, starting on June 14, 2025.
"Real Madrid and Ancelotti would part ways nicely with formal steps needed next."
Despite the reports, Ancelotti remains focused on Real Madrid’s La Liga campaign. The club still has five matches remaining and trails Barcelona by four points in the current standings.
Madrid's final stretch of the season includes fixtures against Celta Vigo, Barcelona, Mallorca, Sevilla, and Real Sociedad.
Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso, is rumored to be the leading candidate to replace Ancelotti at Madrid next season.
Although there is no clarity on when Alonso will join, Bayer Leverkusen's CEO previously revealed that there is a clause in his contract allowing Alonso to leave if approached by his former club.
