CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta - Snack brands Lays, Cheetos, and Doritos have returned to the Indonesian market. The chip products under the PepsiCo flag have begun their presence with Cheetos, which started production in January 2025. Meanwhile, Lays and Doritos are following suit.

Director of Government Affairs and Corporate Communications at PepsiCo Indonesia Foods and Beverages, Gabrielle Angriani Johny, stated that Cheetos, Lays, and Doritos are now being made in Indonesia. "In Indonesia, we have invested around USD 200 million, equivalent to Rp3 trillion, through a snack manufacturing facility in Cikarang, West Java," said Gabrielle during the "Media Gathering PepsiCo Indonesia" event in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

The PepsiCo Indonesia plant, which has been operating since January 2025, occupies an area of 60,000 square meters and will rely entirely on renewable energy and recycled water. Gabrielle hopes that the presence of PepsiCo Indonesia will be able to provide multiplier effects for economic growth through empowering local farmers, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the domestic supply chain.

It is worth noting that Lays, Cheetos, and Doritos were withdrawn from the market in 2021 due to the end of the partnership between Indofood and PepsiCo. This time, Gabrielle stated that the public can satisfy their cravings for their favorite snacks, available in various flavors preferred by the Indonesian people.

Gabrielle added that PepsiCo Indonesia had brought six Indonesian farmers to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to learn about cultivating and harvesting potatoes. "We want the farmers to understand the process of industrial potato production," she said. Some of the things learned by Indonesian potato farmers while in Thailand include the use of pesticides, how to increase potato production, using effective fertilizers, and familiarizing themselves with harvesting equipment different from those used in Indonesia.

PepsiCo Indonesia, Gabrielle continued, has conducted surveys in various regions of Indonesia, including beyond Java Island, to find agricultural areas that qualify as potato raw material suppliers. "At the moment, we have found them in Bandung Regency and Garut Regency, West Java," she said. Meanwhile, the corn supply is obtained from farmers in Kediri, East Java, and Grobogan, Central Java.
