TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, said that he would prepare one assistant coach for the Indonesian National Team to handle player regeneration in the age group.
"The plan is to have an assistant in the national team who also focuses on regeneration. It is not impossible that he can help in the age group. We have not confirmed it yet. (Coach) Patrick Kluivert will be announced later," said Erick, quoted from the PSSI statement in Jakarta, Sunday.
Currently, PSSI has only appointed two names from the Netherlands as assistant coaches for the Indonesian national team, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat. Later, there will be two other figures from Indonesia who will accompany the head coach of the Indonesian national team Patrick Kluivert.
Erick said that PSSI will add one other assistant coach who will work with the coaches in the U-17, U-20, U-23 and senior squads.
This scheme, Erick continued, has gone through a long discussion before. He also did not rule out the possibility that the assistant coach would be announced before the announcement of the PSSI technical director which is planned to be announced at the end of February 2025.
"I believe that a good program is not only about the quality of the coach and players, but also how regeneration is carried out continuously and each coach can still work together," said Erick.
Currently, Patrick Kluivert, who was appointed by PSSI as the head coach of the Indonesian national team on January 9, 2025, is forming a coaching composition to handle the Garuda team.
In this composition, the former Barcelona legend will also be assisted by two assistant coaches from Indonesia who are still in the selection stage and will be announced in February 2025.
