TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Forestry Ministry clarified the presence of Attorney General investigators at the Directorate General of Forestry Planning office, Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 2025.
The Head of the Ministry’s Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation Bureau, Ristianto Pribadi, said investigators arrived to verify data regarding changes in forest area functions. The data concerns protected forests in several regions from previous periods and not during the current Red and White Cabinet.
"This process is part of law enforcement efforts that prioritize data accuracy and information transparency," Ristianto said in a written statement on Thursday, January 8, 2025.
The Ministry affirmed that the activity is data verification, not a search, and the process is running smoothly, orderly, and cooperatively.
He also mentioned that the Directorate General of Forestry Planning remains ready to support law enforcement officials by providing data and information in accordance with laws and regulations.
"The Ministry of Forestry appreciates the steps taken by the Indonesian Attorney General to strengthen forest governance," he said.
He mentioned that synergy between the ministry and law enforcement is part of a commitment to ensure transparent, fair, and sustainable forest management in Indonesia for current and future generations.
The Attorney General's Office (AGO) also denied conducting a search at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. The Head of the Attorney General's Legal Information Center, Anang Supriatna, confirmed that investigators visited the Directorate General of Forestry Planning's office on Wednesday afternoon.
"The arrival of the Attorney General's investigative team was to verify data regarding changes in the function of forest areas, especially protected forests in several regions," Anang said in an official statement on Thursday. "This data verification activity is not a search."
Anang stated that this verification is a proactive move by investigators to visit the Ministry, thereby expediting the acquisition of data. "The activity is running smoothly and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, especially the officials of the Directorate General of Forestry Planning, assisted the investigators by providing and verifying the required data," Anang added.
Previously, information circulated that investigators had conducted a search at the Forestry Ministry. Based on information obtained by Tempo, the reports related to a corruption case involving the change in status of protected forests to production forests and the granting of mining permits involving former North Konawe Regent Aswad Sulaiman.
