TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono stated that the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) and the Family Hope Program (PKH) are the government's efforts to accelerate poverty alleviation.
"President Prabowo wants the poverty problem in Indonesia to be resolved as quickly as possible," said Agus Jabo Priyono in an official statement on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
He explained that eradicating poverty is not an easy task. Therefore, effective programs are needed, such as the MBG program. This program could drive the economy even in remote villages, which can directly reduce poverty rates.
"The MBG program is not only about preparing the Golden Generation in 2045 but also about how the flow of money to the villages, amounting to Rp6 billion to Rp7 billion, will create economic dynamics," he said.
The Ministry of Social Affairs, he added, is also accelerating efforts to eradicate poverty. One of its strategies is to empower and encourage 18.8 million social assistance recipients and 10 million PKH beneficiaries to become self-sufficient.
"I am at the Ministry of Social Affairs with Minister Saifullah Yusuf, working on how we should encourage graduation, transforming these poor communities into empowered ones. Those who have only received aid should start producing tomorrow," he said.
According to him, poor families who want to work will be facilitated with job opportunities. Meanwhile, those who wish to start businesses will be provided entrepreneurship access, including through cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Synergy and collaboration between ministries are also key to the success of poverty eradication.
The MBG program has been running since January 6, 2025. As of now, the MBG program has been implemented in 31 provinces across Indonesia, with 238 SPPG (nutritious meal centers) in operation. With the addition of SPPG set to be inaugurated next month, there will be at least 468 kitchens producing meals for MBG.
President Prabowo Subianto decided to allocate a budget of Rp10,000 per day for children and pregnant women under the MBG program.
Prabowo stated that the government intended to allocate Rp15,000 per child/pregnant woman per day for free nutritious meals, but the current budget allows for only Rp10,000.
