TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace revealed the source of the funding for the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra. According to the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, the budget for the Task Force will be separate from the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB).

Prasetyo stated that the Task Force budget is included in the government's Sumatra rehabilitation and reconstruction funds, with an estimated amount of around R 60 trillion. "(The budget) is outside of the BNPB. It is part of the Rp60 trillion," said Prasetyo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

He mentioned that the budget will be used for repairing roads, bridges, as well as educational and healthcare facilities. Additionally, the funds could also be used to compensate farmers who experienced crop failures due to their fields being buried under flood mud.

The figure of Rp60 trillion, according to Prasetyo, is the estimated amount needed to recover the entire disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in Sumatra. This figure is subject to change.

"This doesn't mean that the Rp60 trillion cannot be increased or decreased. That's not how it works because the funding is dynamic," said the politician from the Gerindra Party.

Prasetyo mentioned that the funds will be channeled through ministries or agencies responsible for the recovery efforts. For example, if bridge repairs are conducted through the Ministry of Public Works, then the funds will be channeled through that ministry.

President Prabowo Subianto previously formed the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. The task force is led by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian.

Tito stated that Prabowo has assigned the task force several responsibilities, particularly to handle the emergency facility repairs. "Starting from infrastructure recovery, education, governance, road construction, housing issues, healthcare facilities, public services, all of them," Tito said after a cabinet retreat in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday night, January 6, 2026.

According to Tito, the task force will operate in the three disaster-affected provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. There are approximately 52 disaster-affected regencies/cities in these areas.

In December 2025, the Minister of Finance, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, stated readiness to reallocate budget savings of Rp60 trillion from the ministry/agency expenditure efficiencies for the recovery of the Sumatra disaster impacts.

"When the State Budget (APBN) was completed in the House of Representatives (DPR), we reviewed all ministry/agency programs. Apparently, there were still many unclear programs and meetings. We have reviewed them. Before the disaster, we had gathered Rp60 trillion from there. So, once needed as mentioned by the President, we are ready," said Purbaya during a briefing at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday, December 15, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Purbaya ensured that the disaster recovery budget requested by the Ministry of Public Works and BNPB will come from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). One of the funding sources comes from the 2026 ministry and agency expenditure efficiencies that have been evaluated.
