TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s flagship airline, Garuda Indonesia, is preparing 1.9 million flight seats to support the Eid al-Fitr homecoming season this year. The Director of Commerce of Garuda Indonesia, Ade R. Susardi, said the number of seats has increased compared to last year, to accommodate the growing air travel demand.
"Flight frequencies have also increased. This year, we are preparing 10,906 flights to serve the Eid homecoming travel,” said Ade in a press conference at the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) on Thursday, March 6, 2025.
Of the total prepared capacity, Garuda Indonesia provides 1.027 million seats, while its subsidiary, Citilink, prepares around 902,830 seats. The airline also added fleets to anticipate a surge in demand.
"Garuda operates 43 units of Boeing 737 for domestic routes, 11 Airbus 330, and 7 Boeing 747 for international routes. Meanwhile, Citilink operates 34 aircraft, consisting of 31 Airbus 320 and 3 Airbus 72-600," he said.
Additionally, Garuda Indonesia also ensures the availability of flight crews and operational optimization to maintain flight punctuality. "We rely on the Operation Control Center (OCC) to ensure punctual service, because a delayed flight will affect subsequent schedules,” he said.
Ade added that Garuda Indonesia also coordinates with PT Angkasa Pura to ensure airport services remain optimal for the whole day, preparing numerous digital check-in channels to reduce queues at the airport.
The peak of the Eid al-Fitr homecoming is predicted to occur on March 28, while the return flow is expected to peak on April 6. "After the price adjustments, we saw an increase in ticket bookings after price adjustments. The trend of purchasing tickets still showcases a last-minute pattern, but we continue to encourage people to plan their trips ahead to get better prices," said Ade.
As part of the effort to support people's mobility, Garuda Indonesia also offers various ticket promos, including discounts of up to 18 percent on certain routes. "We want to provide a more comfortable and affordable travel experience for people celebrating Eid," Ade concluded.
