Gaza Hunger Death Toll Rises to 428

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of casualties due to famine in Gaza has also increased to 428 people, including 146 Palestinian children.

This is in line with the closure of all border crossings by Israel, which has further exacerbated the hunger situation in the region, as stated by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, as reported by Anadolu.

In its daily update, the ministry confirmed three new deaths in the past 24 hours, one of which is a child, caused by severe malnutrition.

The Ministry noted that at least 150 Palestinians, including 31 children, have died of famine since August, when the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) declared a state of famine in the city of Gaza.

The IPC also warned that the crisis will spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in central and southern Gaza by the end of September.

Israel has closed the Gaza crossings since March 2, preventing food trucks and aid from entering despite hundreds of people waiting at the border. This action has worsened the region's humanitarian crisis, leaving residents without access to basic supplies.

The Israeli army has killed nearly 65,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. The relentless bombing has made the enclave uninhabitable, leading to famine and the spread of diseases.
