TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Gerindra Party openly announced that newly appointed Chair of Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, will once again run for president in the 2029 general elections. The announcement was made in front of party leaders of the Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) during a gathering ahead of Gerindra's 17th anniversary in Hambalang, West Java, on Friday, February 14, 2025.
This was conveyed by a Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) deputy chief, Ahmad Heryawan, after participating in a gathering of KIM party leaders in Hambalang on Friday.
"It was announced that Prabowo will run again in 2029," said Ahmad in Hambalang, adding that the incumbent president did not ask for immediate support for KIM plus members.
PKS, he said, has yet to determine its stance on Prabowo’s plan. “The party’s stance will be determined in time,” he said.
On the contrary, the deputy chair of the Democratic Party, Benny Kabur Harman, said Prabowo did request KIM Plus to remain united until 2029. “President Prabowo Subianto asked the KIM Plus coalition to become a permanent coalition," Benny said in Hambalang on Friday, February 14.
President Prabowo Subianto invited all KIM party leaders in Hambalang today, predating Gerinda’s 17th anniversary on Saturday, February 15.
NasDem Party chair Willy Aditya said the meeting was attended by a number of elected regional heads from KIM Plus parties. Willy heard that the president will offer guidance on restructuring and efficiency policies to allow for a unified view regarding Prabowo’s policies.
Prior to the meeting, the Gerindra Party held its 7th Extraordinary Congress (KLB) in Hambalang, West Java, on Thursday, February 13, where the party re-elected Prabowo Subianto as the party chair. Prabowo also expressed his willingness to run for a second presidential term during the 2029 election.
