TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Air Transportation Directorate General of the Transportation Ministry has announced that Indonesia Airlines cannot perform scheduled commercial air transportation activities in Indonesia as it has not applied for licensing or submitted an application to establish and operate flights.
"We emphasize that to date, the Directorate General of Air Transportation has not received an application for Sertifikat Standar Angkutan Udara Niaga Berjadwal or the Aircraft Operator Certificate (AOC) under the name of Indonesia Airlines," said the Acting Director General of Air Transportation of the Transportation Ministry, Lukman F. Laisa, in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday, March 23, 2025, as quoted from Antara.
This is in response to the information circulating in various mass media and social media regarding the plan for the operation of the new airline, Indonesia Airlines.
The Directorate General of Air Transportation clarified that it has not yet received any Indonesia Airlines' application for licensing or any administrative documents.
"This includes establishing a commercial scheduled airline as well as obtaining an operating license to fly in Indonesian airspace," he said.
Referring to Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 35 of 2021 regarding Air Transportation Operations, any business entity intending to conduct scheduled commercial air transportation must comply with the applicable licensing provisions and procedures.
The process includes submitting administrative documents, ensuring technical completeness, and operational aspects before obtaining the AOC.
Additionally, based on the applicable regulations, airlines also need an AOC as stipulated in Minister of Transportation Regulation Number PM 33 of 2022 concerning Civil Aviation Safety Regulations Part 119.
Without both certificates, Lukman stated, an airline is not allowed to conduct scheduled commercial air transportation activities in Indonesia. "All of these requirements must be met to ensure flight safety, security, and service standards for the public," he said, as quoted from Antara.
Lukman also urged the public to always seek information from official sources. "Do not be easily influenced by unverified news," he said.
Furthermore, the Directorate General of Air Transportation ensured that they would periodically update if there were further developments regarding Indonesia Airlines or other airlines. "Any official information will be communicated through the Directorate General of Air Transportation communication channel to avoid misunderstanding in the community," said Lukman.
