TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, also known as Mualem, has extended the state of emergency for hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh for another 14 days, from January 9 to January 22, 2026.
Mualem announced the decision during a virtual meeting regarding the emergency extension at the Aceh Flood and Landslide Emergency Response Post, located at the Aceh Governor's office, on Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026.
In his decision, Mualem stated that the extension is based on coordination with the central government and a letter from the Minister of Home Affairs dated January 7, 2026, regarding the emergency status in Aceh Province.
This extension considers disaster management conditions and the distribution of victims. It also accounts for isolated areas, limited logistics in affected regions, and the need to accelerate public services and administration.
"Therefore, as the Governor of Aceh, I have decreed the Third Extension of the State of Emergency due to Hydrometeorological Disasters in Aceh for 14 (fourteen) days, effective from January 9 to January 22, 2026," said Mualem.
Mualem explained that the extension aims to ensure environmental cleanup, logistics distribution, healthcare, and public access improvements are carried out quickly and evenly, including reaching difficult-to-access villages.
Mualem called on government agencies, local governments, the military, police, volunteers, and businesses to work together to expedite Aceh's recovery so that schools, residential areas, and the economy can return to normal. "I also instruct the immediate restoration of roads and bridges in the affected areas so that community connectivity can return to normal," he added.
Additionally, Mualem urged regents and mayors to complete the R3P document by the third week of January 2026 as the basis for Aceh's recovery and reconstruction.
"To all affected Aceh residents, we express our empathy and full support. The government will continue to be present, work, and ensure that the recovery process runs as smoothly as possible. I thank everyone for their cooperation," said Mualem.
