TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Grobogan Police Chief AKBP Ike Yulianto has issued an apology for the actions of Aipda IR, an officer from the Geyer Police Station, who allegedly used violence and intimidation while interrogating Kusyanto, a 38-year-old snail collector wrongfully accused of stealing a water pump.
Kusyanto, a resident of Toroh, Grobogan Regency, was suspected to have been mistakenly arrested by the police.
"We have reviewed the entire sequence of events from the initial arrest to the interrogation," said Ike on Monday, March 10, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Ike assured that Aipda IR is now under police internal affairs investigation and is currently detained. "He will undergo an ethics hearing in accordance with applicable regulations," Ike stated.
Aipda IR allegedly subjected Kusyanto to excessive interrogation, including threats and physical violence, on Sunday, March 2, 2025. The incident was recorded by residents and later went viral on social media.
Without any evidence, IR accused Kusyanto of theft and pressured him to confess to stealing a water pump and a diesel engine, which had been frequently reported missing in the area.
In the viral video, IR was seen shouting, making accusations, and threatening Kusyanto. Reports also indicate that the snail collector was physically assaulted before being taken to the Geyer Police Station.
Following the investigation, Kusyanto was released after authorities found no evidence linking him to the theft. Police Chief Ike Yulianto confirmed that Kusyanto was not a thief based on the findings of the police inquiry.
The case began when IR received a theft report from a village resident. "The officer was called by locals, as someone was suspected of theft. So, there was a handover from the residents," Ike explained.
He added that theft of irrigation equipment and vehicle spare parts is a recurring issue in the area. "There have been frequent cases of stolen water pumps and car parts around this region," he noted.
