TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin targets the recovery of health facility infrastructure in three provinces of Sumatra affected by the disaster to be fully completed by March 2026.
"We target March 2026 for the total recovery of all hospitals and community health centers (affected by the Sumatra floods)," said Budi in Yogyakarta, Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Budi stated that the recovery steps for health facilities affected by the disaster are carried out in several stages. This ensures that the public still has access to medical care, even in emergencies.
He explained that in the initial phase, they prioritize the cleaning up of flood debris and mud that previously piled up to a height of an adult's body, at nine hospitals.
These efforts have yielded results in mid-December 2025. Where all severely affected hospitals have successfully reopened to serve patients, especially in the emergency department (IGD).
"Out of a total of 850 community health centers that stopped operating during the disaster, only four units are still in the intensive recovery process to serve the community again," said Budi.
In addition to the physical building repairs, Budi stated that they also focus on repairing supporting facilities such as ambulances and heavily damaged medical equipment.
As a result of the disaster, a total of 205 ambulances were damaged.
The Ministry of Health has also collaborated with several automotive companies to dispatch mechanics directly to the disaster areas through a pick-up service. Until now, 50 ambulances have been successfully repaired, while 80 other units are still being handled in workshops due to significant engine repairs.
On the other hand, Budi revealed that thousands of computers, pieces of medical furniture, and vital medical equipment were submerged in the Sumatra disaster.
He disclosed that technicians have been deployed to all locations to identify which devices can still be salvaged or need to be replaced with new ones.
"We've calculated that we need a budget of around 500 billion Rupiah for the repair and replacement of damaged medical equipment and its supporting facilities. We're currently proposing the budget so that we can quickly proceed with the replacements," he said.
Budi revealed that the health services affected by the Sumatra floods still require a lot of furniture.
"There are beds but the mattresses are missing. Almost all computers cannot be repaired and we need thousands of computers," he said.
