TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain across Jakarta and its surrounding areas on Thursday, January 22, 2026, triggered flooding in at least 80 neighborhood units (RT) and inundated 23 road sections, according to the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Flooding was reported in West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta as of 06:00 PM local time.

Mohamad Yohan, Head of the Disaster Management Data and Information Center, said the inundation was primarily caused by intense rainfall across the capital and nearby regions.

“Heavy rain in Jakarta and its surrounding areas resulted in flooding in several locations,” Yohan said on Thursday.

In West Jakarta, floods affected 22 RT in areas including Kedaung Kali Angke, Kedoya Utara, Rawa Buaya, Kapuk, as well as Sukabumi Selatan and Sukabumi Utara. Water levels ranged from 20 centimeters to as high as 110 centimeters, largely due to heavy rainfall.

South Jakarta recorded the highest number of affected areas, with 42 RT inundated. Flooding was reported in Pondok Labu, Cipete Utara, Petogogan, Cipulir, Pela Mampang, and Cilandak Timur.

In addition to heavy rain, overflow from the Krukut and Mampang rivers worsened conditions, with water levels reaching up to 90 centimeters in some locations.

In East Jakarta, flooding hit 16 RT across Rawa Terate, Bidara Cina, Kampung Melayu, Cawang, and Cililitan. Along the Ciliwung River basin, water levels ranged from 30 to 90 centimeters due to a combination of rainfall and river overflow.

BPBD also reported that 11 families, comprising 28 people, were forced to evacuate and seek shelter at Al Khaeer Mosque in Kedaung Kali Angke, West Jakarta.

In addition to residential areas, flooding continued to affect 23 major road sections across West Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta, with water depths reaching up to 60 centimeters, disrupting traffic in several parts of the city.
