TEMPO.CO, Jakarta United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents shot and killed another person in Minneapolis, United States. According to the victim's parents, the man was identified as Alex Pretti, an intensive care unit nurse. The shooting occurred amid an immigration crackdown that has sparked protests and renewed calls for President Donald Trump to immediately withdraw heavily armed officers from the city.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara told reporters that a 37-year-old man died in the hospital on Saturday, January 24, 2026, after being shot multiple times. The man was a Minneapolis resident and a US citizen, O'Hara said.

The fatal shooting occurred amid a weeks-long deployment of U.S. immigration enforcement and other federal agents to Minneapolis. The raids were conducted as part of Trump's anti-immigration campaign.

The incident occurred amid widespread daily protests in Minneapolis since the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good on January 7, 2026. Good was killed when an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fired at her vehicle.

Federal agents also shot a Venezuelan man in a separate incident last week in the city. “This has long been beyond immigration enforcement,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a separate press conference in Saint Paul, the state capital and twin city of Minneapolis, as reported by Al Jazeera.

“This was an organized campaign of brutality against the people of our state. And today that campaign claimed another life,” Walz said, pledging that Minnesota would handle the investigation into the killing.

The Department of Homeland Security said a US Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man who was carrying a gun and resisting attempts to disarm him.

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that federal officers were conducting an operation as part of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. The ICE officers fired in self-defense after an armed man approached them. The man resisted when the officers tried to disarm him.

Trump, a Republican, rejected Walz’s criticism in a post on Truth Social on Saturday afternoon. He denounced the governor and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, both Democrats, as hypocritical political fools.

He accused them of inciting insurrection with their arrogant, dangerous, and arrogant rhetoric.

Footage of the shooting circulating on social media shows a group of US law enforcement officers wrestling a man to the ground before several shots are heard.

Another video of the incident, taken from a different angle, also shows the man holding a cell phone in his hand before being sprayed in the face with what appears to be pepper spray. He is subdued and shot multiple times.

US Vice President JD Vance and Attorney General Pam Bondi blamed Minnesota's leadership for the fatal shooting. They said state and city officials refused to cooperate with federal authorities.

"When I visited Minnesota, the most important thing ICE agents wanted was to cooperate with local law enforcement so the situation on the ground didn't get out of control," Vance said, as quoted by TRT World. He added that Minneapolis leadership "has so far refused to respond to those requests."

Bondi told Fox News that the Justice Department sent a strongly worded letter to Governor Walz demanding that he be more supportive of President Trump.

Meanwhile, Walz accused Trump administration officials of fabricating the story of the fatal Border Patrol shooting before any investigation had begun. He rejected the Department of Homeland Security's version of events, saying video evidence contradicted the federal government's claims.
