TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Stock trading in the first session at the Indonesia Stock Exchange on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, was temporarily halted after the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) dropped 5.02 percent to 5,146.
The Corporate Secretary of the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Kautsar Primadi Nurahmad, confirmed this in a written statement.
"We hereby inform that today, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, a temporary trading halt has occurred at the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) at 11:19:31 Jakarta Automated Trading System (JATS) time, triggered by a 5 percent decline in the IHSG."
According to him, this policy was taken in accordance with the Board of Directors' Decree of BEI Number: Kep-00024/BEI/03-2020 dated March 10, 2020 concerning Changes in Guidelines for Handling Continuity of Trading at the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Emergency Conditions.
The Exchange stated that trading resumes at 11:49:31 JATS time without any changes to the trading schedule.
Trading halt is the exchange's policy to temporarily halt stock trading. This is done to correct imbalances, fix technical errors, or in the event of too rapid index movements. The Exchange implements this measure to prevent potential investor losses due to extreme price fluctuations.
The IHSG opened the week on a weak note. According to research from Samuel Sekuritas Indonesia, by the end of the first trading session on Monday, March 17, 2025, the IHSG had fallen 0.99 percent to 6,450.8, diverging from the upward trend in global markets.
Domestically, the IHSG fluctuated before eventually falling into the red. "By the end of the first trading session, 322 stocks rose, 303 declined, and 221 remained unchanged, with a transaction value of Rp5.1 trillion, a trading frequency of 656,335, and a volume of 129.7 million lots," Samuel Sekuritas reported on Monday, March 17, 2025.
